Allworx 6X Installation
It is VERY IMPORTANT that you install surge protection for each phone line, as well as for the AC power. If you want to maintain full phone service during a power failure, install an Uninterruptible Power Supply ("UPS"). CLICK
Allworx recommends that you connect a wire (18 gage or heavier) from the ground screw to a grounded copper cold water pipe, or other suitable ground.

The Allworx 6X cabinet is compact. It measures 12.1 × 1.9 × 7.6 inches and weighs just 3 lbs.
It can go on a shelf, on brackets, in a rack...almost anywhere.
Installation will be easiest if you pick a location close to your source of dialtone, and where
you can have all the wiring from individual phones come together.
We suggest that you mount your equipment on a 5/8-inch thick plywood backboard, about
four feet wide and two feet high, with the center at eye level.
You'll probably need room for surge protection (for both power and phone lines), punchdown
block, music-on-hold source, and maybe an Ethernet switch, patch panel, backup battery and
a paging amplifier.
Pick a location where it is comfortable to work, without extremes of temperature or humidity, or
corrosive fumes, dust or dripping water. Electronic boxes are happy where people are happy.
Standard RJ11 modular jacks are used to connect the 6X to incoming analog phone lines.
An additional RJ11 jack is provided for operating a standard analog phone on line #1 in a power failure.
There are also two RJ11 jacks for single-line phones (CLARIFY).
Multi-line phones use data-style RJ45 cords and plugs, and connect to an Ethernet switch, which connects to the LAN port on the 6X.
Other connectors are used for Internet, music on hold, paging, door opener and power.

A swinging gate wall rack can hold a
lot of equipment neatly and securely,
including a 6X, Ethernet switch, patch
panel, paging amplifier and backup
battery; and makes it easy to get at rear
connections.
